Nintendo Wi-Fi reaches a million users |

Nintendo Canada announced today that Nintendo’s wireless gaming service has hit an incredible one-million unique users worldwide after less than four months in operation. The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection lets owners of the handheld Nintendo DS game unit log on wirelessly to compete or interact in a variety of games, from racing in Mario Kart DS or community-building with Animal Crossing: Wild World.
The Wi-Fi connection will also be used by a new web browser that was announced last month by Opera software out of Norway.
The company said the one-millionth user was a player in Japan, who logged on to play Animal Crossing: Wild World.
The company announced last month that as of the end of 2005, the Nintendo DS was the fastest gaming system in Japanese history to sell through five million units, and had surpassed more than 14 million units sold worldwide.
Among DS software titles, Nintendogs had sold more than 5 million units worldwide; Mario Kart DS 3.5 million, and Animal Crossing DS over one million units.
 Nintendo Tetris DS On March 20th, Nintendo will launch two new Wi-Fi enabled games in North America, Tetris DS (see image) and Metroid Prime Hunters, which should draw even more players to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Tetris DS will allows up to four players to face off in one in a new twist on one of the most popular games of all time.
Metroid Prime Hunters that allows users to chat before and after battles using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Players can use the Metroid chat feature to agree on match parameters and to relive their battle glories. This riveting first-person shooter lets players choose from a variety of characters and weapons, with extensive replay options.
